Hi, everyone! Based on feedback gathered from the community regarding availability, travel times, activities, etc., we’ve put together a great in-person meetup! We will be gathering on March 26th at Grinnell Christian Church from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM. We are asking each adult to pay $10 to help cover lunch and the facility rental.
Our hands-on activity will be constructing first aid booster packs. This activity will involve supplementing your typical off the shelf first aid kits you might find at Walmart or Costco with items that focus on bleeding, breaks, burns and bites. The base cost if your family/party wishes to participate is $55, and additional premium a la carte items may be added. (See the registration form below for a detailed breakdown of costs.) Each family that opts to participate will be entered into drawing for a free CAT Gen 7 tourniquet! Due to the up-front cost and shipping time, we are asking you to register by Sunday, Feb 27th if you plan to do the first aid booster pack activity. We will try to accommodate late registrations, but cannot guarantee availability of the first aid supplies.
We will have teenaged girls available to help with babysitting, and there are will be areas for kids to play indoor and outdoor nearby where the adults are meeting. You may pay the girls a little something if you like, but it’s not required.
Here’s what on the agenda:
- Doors Open – 11:00 AM
- Homemade Ranch – Matt, TSP-IA Fun Wrangler
- Lunch – 11:30(ish) – Casey’s Pizza and Homegrown Hydroponic Lettuce – Owen, TSP-IA Fun Wrangler
- EDC/Go Bags – Simon, Brownells Product Manager
- First Aid Booster Packs – Seth, TSP-IA Community Member
- Egg Pickling – Matt, TSP-IA Fun Wrangler
- Table/Board Games (bring your favorites)
- Clean-up – 5:30 PM
Several people were interested in axe throwing. While we were not able to officially incorporate this activity this time around, we just learned that The Thunderdome in Newton just added axe throwing in the last couple of weeks. If their hours don’t change, they are open from 5-11 on Saturday evenings. It’s about a half hour drive west of Grinnell, and might be a fun “unofficial” option for those who want to go there afterwards. The Thunderdome has some other meeting areas, and we may look at that for future meet-ups as well.
Thanks for being part of this community, and we’ll see you March 26th!
